Applications for the Shackleton Scholarship Fund (SSF) are being accepted now. The SSF benefits both the scholars and the region by creating wider knowledge and promoting new skills and activities. Applications can be submitted requesting funds (usually of up to about £4,000) to help support Academic or Quality of Life projects. Closing date for applications is 31 March 2024. Applications forms can be downloaded from our Application pages.

Covid-19 and Shackleton Scholarship Fund Applications

While the Falklands have been fortunate to have maintained a relatively 'covid-free' status, there are still travel restrictions to and from the Islands, and onwards to South Georgia. These may impact when and how SSF Scholars are able to undertake their projects. Shearing Instructor visits the Falkland Islands

New Zealander, Gavin Rowland who is a Director of Tectra (New Zealand's leading provider of shearing training) brings his extensive knowledge to the Falklands.   Gavin himself has competed for many years in shearing competitiors with some success.  He has the role of delivering judges training nationally.  He actively supports the shearing community as Spearing Sports Chairman and is Chairman of the 2017 World Championship organising committee.

Potter Bridget Drakeford visits the Falkland Islands

I departed from Brize Norton late at night to begin an adventure, fulfilling a lifetime ambition to visit the Falkland Islands.    We had a rather long delay in Ascension Island due to bad weather affecting flights in the Falklands and eventually I was collected from the airport at Mount Pleasant by Jenny Luxton and driven to my base at Lafone House in Stanley ... and so my three weeks in the Falklands began!
